The first few weeks of school are always filled with so much energy, and this weekend is no exception! There is lots to do and lots to see, whether you've got some money to spend or not.
Upland Brewery is having a folk/bluegrass/Americana music festival on Saturday, September 6th at their Brewpub (350 W. 11th St.). Tickets are $20 and give you all-day access to great music, yummy food, tasty beer, and local artwork. If you are not yet convinced that it is money well spent, all proceeds from the event benefit Sycamore Land Trust, a local organization that preserves green space and forests in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Festival:
12:45 pm - The Stringtown Pickers
2:15 pm - Larry Crane
3:45 pm - Sara Petite
5:30 pm - Jason Wilber
7:15 pm - Aaron Persinger
9:00 pm - Todd Snider
All ages are welcome, but of course, you must be 21 to partake in frosty libations. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

If you're finding yourself a little bit short on cash after buying textbooks and paying rent, never fear. BLU Boy Chocolate Cafe is giving away free ice cream! In celebration of their first year of business, BLU Boy is giving away free ice cream. Beginning at 10am on Saturday September 6th BLU Boy will give away a free scoop of locally hand-crafted ice cream to the first 500 customers that day. BLU Boy uses fresh local eggs, rich cream, organic vanilla, locally roasted coffee, and dark chocolate to make their ice cream in their boutique chocolate café and cakery located next to the Buskirk Chumley Indiana Theater at 112 E. Kirkwood Ave.
The stuff is really heavenly, but mooch beware: all the goodies in that store are so beautiful and tempting, you might find yourself taking home some seasonal fruit tarts or a box of housemade raspberry truffles with your free scoop.
